  hey all,.

  i am currently studying the topic of intelligent design (id).

  basically the id theory is the revival of the teleological argument for the existance of a deity.

  logic is an abstracted set of symbols which is taken to represent manipulation of items of experience which have an apparent consistancy, stability, and collective agreement... it is neither universal nor necessarily representative of anything more than experiences within ones own mind.

  Fuzzy logic which was developed in the US in the 40s was rejected by western minds because it deals in a logic where more than 100% is common... this lead to is discoverer to bring it to japan where their zen way of looking at things fit right in, and many projects on the market which work far better in real time than traditional logic systems are making loads of money.... the new space station docking port is one of the biggest western applications of fuzzy logical systems which are still rare in the US and Europe.

  seems to me that common sense was never real, just another nice myth that people no longer believe in...

  after all, stupidity and irrationality have been reigning supreme for as long as recorded history and I find little evidence

  your common sense ever existed as more than a legendary being (^_^)

  I am a pan-me-ist because while I understand that EVERYTHING I know is in my own mind, thus directly me... I am not its creator

  but I am part of it as it is part of me and no one made either one... I am like a wave upon the ocean, but I am also the ocean too...

  If what I am made of is eternal, neither I nor it made itself and since I am but a manifestion of its true nature, I dont see the need nor point in calling it or me God.... so pan-me-ist seems more accurate than pantheist.

  what is bethel, how do you go there and what do you do there?

  What you wrote about the movie reminds me of another flick - Logan's Run. Very similar theme - the eternal reward just turns out to be Death, a fancy death of course. Logan escapes and finds that all that he thought he knew was a lie - similar plot.

  ugly enough, I mentioned Logans run in another post where someone asked if it were better just to leave people in their delusional world rather than wake them up to the world beyond their mental prisons.

  there is a tv series called THE TRIPODS which I believe was made in France or England, and I think ex-JWs made it...

  in it these children notice that when their friend reach the age of accoutability, they have this CAP surgicaly placed on their skull and

  they become subservient robot like entities with little life or creativity in them.[baptism?]... and that is not for them.... so they run away.

  there are these menacing machines the height of trees with three legs which try to hunt them down.

  the seek a sanctuary they heard about in the mountains.

  when they finally meet up with the apostates [I mean resistance] they learn of a plan to infiltrate the CITY OF GOLD [bethel] where the tripods have their main base and powerplants... they must get a false cap and pretend to be capped and participate in an olympic like competition to be deemed worthy to enter the city of gold... which is the hope and dream of every capped person... much like many naive JWs view bethel.

  once they get in they discover the tripod rulers are aliens, the city is filled with dangerous gases which kills off the young olypiads very quickly by rapid aging, much as bethel seems to do by hard repetitive work and free flowing alcohol to relieve the pressure.

  Anyone know much about "The Beast," the movie they're advertising here in banner ads on this site? It appears to be a take on the Jesus Mysteries, or that Jesus never existed.... hard to tell from the teaser....

  a young gal discovers her father, a bible scholar is missing... she is a fundi and is shocked to discover that her dad uncovered direct evidence that Jesus was a church invented fraud, never existed. [ www.jesusneverexisted.com ]

  and she discovers a fundi group bent on killing off anyone who finds the real evidence.... should be interesting.

  as I have read most of the books sited on the above web link, I have come to agree that Jesus likely was made up from pagan myths and never existed in the form the bible portrays... but it is likely that some of the stories are atleast based on a real person or more likley several real people combnied.

  one of the claims against the trinity that the wtbts makes is that "[s]ince the bible calls humans, angels, even satan, "gods," or powerful ones, the superior jesus in heaven can properly be called "a god.

  in the old testament, the hebrew employs elohim to signify what the wt says above.

  but it is interesting to note that psalm 82 (81 in the septuagint, and i will be using septuagint numbering from now on), in which the judges of israel are called "gods," is a satire.

  here is another thing about the trinity

  where does it say there are only three?

  my bibles say there are SEVEN spriits of GOD

  and there are BENI-Elohim or SON[s] of GOD numbering in the 10,000,000's, each one in the FORM of GOD

  and called Elohim or Gods in different places.

  the concept I find over and over again in the bible is that there is one who is GOD of gods, YHWH, and all the rest

  which will include the SONS of GOD by adoption from humanity who will become BROTHERS of CHRIST, JOINT HEIRS of GOD[ship]

  seems this trinity distinction is artificial in all directions save its origin in the pagan trinities which predate judhaism

  Bear in mind that the Trinity claims as well that the Son and the Father are two separate persons in a relationship with each other, distinguished from each other tho unified.... It is frequently misunderstood as claiming otherwise.
  

  trinitarian, however often overlook a very important element in the bible

  word pictures, visions, if you will... and no trinitarian I have ever run into has bothered to explain them...

  there are three main ones I can point to...

  Daniel which shows ONE being, the ancient of days and ANOTHER who is NOT shown to be God in any way shape or form, but is given great authority by the ONE being who is obviously God.

  another is the vision of Stephen as he is dying...he says he looks into heaven and sees JESUS with GOD, at GOD's right hand... to Stephen's mind and description, we detect no confusion as to any sort of trinity, but clearly as in Daniel, ONE who is GOD alone and another who is Jesus, and like daniel, no trace of any holy spirit as a 3rd person.

  finally the Revelation of John

  here we see ONE who is seated upon the THRONE and called THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY and there is no mistaking who this represents, and another, called the LAMB, the LION of JUDHA and there is again no mistaking who this ONE is...and again NO person representing any holy spirit...and infact the holy spirit is mentioned as not one but seven bowls of fire, seven eyes, seven stars, seven horns, etc.... clearly there is NO individual mentioned nor indicated, but a definite connection to the seven angels who roved the earth as God's eyes in the OT.

  the consistancy is hard to ignore for me... there is NOT ONE vision in the hebrew nor greek bible which contradicts this simple and traditionally jewish view of GOD and his messiah.

  Understanding why people leave

  hi all, just thought i'd introduce myself before i make any other posts - i'm lds through and through 'nuff said.

  why am i here, well i've been reading the posts here for over a year and i initially enjoyed them in a sneaky rival faction way (i.e.

  one in the eye for jw's yehaw..)but of late i've been redaing these posts and using them to critique my own approach to my faith.

  I did the prayer to find out if the church is true - got my answer - never really looked back

  ALTERNATIVE VIEW ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH YOUR PRAYER--

  THEORY-- the subconscious is similar to a computer, it is running its own programs, but is subject to re-programming

  if you tell it something without questioning it, it accepts that as a truth.

  as I understand it the prayer thing goes something like this-- ask God if such and such is TRUE and then you will know...etc.

  break that down into programming--- 1. in order to ask God if X is true, one must ASSUME God exists... so first program installed

  God = true [even though, there is NO proof given, we just told our subconscious that God is true, simply by accepting that we can and should pray to God.]

  2. in order to ask if X is true, we must not have any valid reason to deny X = true. so because we have not CHALLENGED X=True with anything valid, we are by virtue of asking IS X = true, in effect, telling our subconscious to program X=true.

  3. putting it all together, we now ASK our own subconscious which we at the same time programmed, the question, is X = true, and since we also by virtue of asking in this fashion of a God we already assumed exists, our subconscious takes upon itself that role and answers in a way we will accept, yes X= true.

  now of course this will NOT work on anything we KNOW, by some experience or other set of beliefs to be false... but there are many religious questions such as God, are you there? do you exist? is this your church? etc, which NO hard answer exists in this shared reality, which allow this sort of self-deceptive, programming and responding by our own subconscious in the role of the God we told it to be.

  so this test of religous validity to me is just a very clever con game, perhaps dreamed up by accident or innocence.
